The area
Matera, twenty minutes away
About twenty kilometres, roughly twenty minutes by car. The Sassi of Matera are a UNESCO site: two districts carved into the limestone, lived in for millennia, emptied in the 1950s and brought back afterwards. It is not a day trip. It is next door.
You walk the Sassi. They are a maze of alleys, stairs and carved courtyards, and you leave the car outside regardless. From here that problem never comes up. The car stays in the private internal car park, and the road to Matera takes twenty minutes. On request, we are glad to suggest what to see.
What's around here
Matera and its Sassi, a twenty-minute drive. Altamura's old town 2.3 km away. The Alta Murgia national park all around. Bari and the sea 44 km away. On request we're glad to suggest what to see.
